Data sources

With Data Storage Optimizer, you can tier and purge data from file systems. To process data from these systems, Data Storage Optimizer uses Data Catalog’s data source definitions, which stores the connection information to your sources, including their access URLs and credentials for the service user. The following data sources are supported in Data Storage Optimizer:

Viewing a data source

You can view existing data sources to know about the name, availability, type, and usage.

Perform the following steps to view a data source:

Procedure

  1. On the Menu, click Management.

    The Manage Your Environment page opens.
  2. On the Data Sources card, click Imported.

    The Data Sources page appears.

Results

The table on the page displays the information about your available data sources.

Importing a data source

If your role allows it, you can import a data source into Data Storage Optimizer.

Perform the following steps to import a data source:

Procedure

  1. On the Menu, click Management.

    The Manage Your Environment page opens.
  2. On the Data Sources card, click Import Data Source.

    The Import Data Sources page appears with a list of discovered data sources from Data Catalog.
  3. Select the data source(s) that you want to import.

  4. Click Import.

    A message confirming that the data source was mounted appears at the top of the page.

Results

The data source is mounted in Data Storage Optimizer.

Unmounting a data source

You can remove a data source when you no longer need it.

You must have admin privileges to remove a data source.

Perform the following steps to remove a data source:

Procedure

  1. On the Menu, click Management.

    The Manage Your Environment page opens.
  2. On the Data Sources card, click Imported.

    The Data Sources page opens showing the list of existing data sources.
  3. Select the data source that you want to remove from Data Catalog.

  4. Click Unmount.

Results

A confirmation message with the data source unmount status is displayed at the top of the page.
