Quick Start
Whether you are an admin user making connections to a new data source, a data steward curating existing business terms, or a data analyst analyzing the fresh data influx, Lumada Data Catalog provides tools for your data management, classification, and discovery needs.
To get started using the Data Catalog, log in using the address and credentials provided by your Data Catalog service user or administrator.
Log in to Lumada Data Catalog
Before you begin
- URL and port number of the Data Catalog web server.
- User name and password for accessing Data Catalog.
Procedure
Launch a web browser and enter the URL and the port number of the Data Catalog web server provided by your Data Catalog administrator:

If you are using Data Catalog virtual machine images, use the following location from inside the VM image:
The Data Catalog Welcome page appears.http://localhost:8082/
Click Login with SSO.
The Sign in to your account dialog box opens.Enter your username or email and password and click Sign In.
The Home page displays.
Tour of the Home page
The Home page provides a central location for accessing the business tools (such as business glossary, data canvas, dashboards, and so on) available to you based on your role. You can access your user profile, Data Catalog documentation for help, and notifications from the top user menu. You can also use the left navigation menu to navigate to different features in the product. If you know what you are looking for, you can begin searching your data in the Data Catalog on this page.
Access the top user menu to view notifications, get the Data Catalog documentation for help, manage your user profile, and log out. View the following table for details about these features:

Notification | Click the Notification icon to display a list of notifications about job events. A dot next to the icon indicates that there is a new notification that requires your attention. For each notification, you can:

Profile |
Click the Profile icon to view your profile or log out of the Data Catalog. You can select any of the following options:

You can start searching your metadata from the Search Data Catalog search box on the Home page. Enter keywords or click in the search box to begin. You can search across the metadata in the following ways:
- Performing a global keyword search across all the resources or fields available to you.
- Reusing a previously entered or saved search.
- Running an advanced search.
Use the left navigation menu to access the key features available to you in Data Catalog. The following is a list of the menu icons and what features they open:

Home | Opens the Home page of Data Catalog. It returns you to the Home page from your current location. | |
Search | Opens the global search page loaded with the results from the last search performed. For more information about the Search tool, see Searching Data Catalog. | |
Bookmarks | When you mark a resource as a favorite, it appears on your Bookmarks page. This page contains a list of all the data resources that you have marked as favorites. When you click a favorite resource, it opens in the Data Canvas. For more information, see Bookmarking resources. | |
Data Canvas | Explore and investigate the data in Data Canvas, where you can find the detailed insights into resource metadata, which helps you to understand and clarify practical applications. For more information, see Data Canvas. | |
Data Rationalization | Identify and analyze copies and overlaps of the data in your data lake in the Data Rationalization dashboard. It discovers the owners of duplicate files, the number of duplicates, and the amount of space that they are consuming. For more information, see Data rationalization. | |
Glossary | Opens the Business Glossary page, where you can create, organize, and curate business terms, which helps you to navigate your data. For more information, see Tour the Business Glossary page. | |
Workflow Items | View and manage workflows on the Workflow Items page. A dot next to the icon indicates that there is a new workflow notification that requires your attention. For more information, see Manage workflows and Using Workflows. | |
Tools | Configure system settings and integrate with other systems in the Tools page. For more information, see Utility jobs. | |
Management | Manage your data sources, virtual folders, agents, jobs, business rules, user roles, jobs, properties, and workflows on the Manage Your Environment page. For more information, see Manage. |
On the Data Catalog Home page, you can see the Welcome and Activity sections with quick access cards for Data Catalog features associated with your role and permissions.
Welcome section
By default, the Welcome section contains a maximum of four cards. You can click Modify Cards to select and rearrange the available cards. To access more cards, click Management in the left navigation menu.

Business Glossary defines the definitions for your business terms and shows all glossaries and terms for which you have access based on your role.

Business Rules evaluates data and metadata properties to add terms, remove terms, modify custom property values, and evaluate data quality metrics.

Manage Your Environment page manages data sources, virtual folders, agents, jobs, business rules, user roles, and workflows.

Activity section
The Activity section contains areas for viewing workflow tasks, any places you are tagged, and your recently processed items.
