Manage device groups

Use device groups in IIoT Core Services to facilitate bulk operations.

You can learn about deploying software and configurations to device groups in Deploy software to a device group and Deploy software configurations or secrets to a device group.

Create a device group
You can create a device group to make it easier to manage a large number of devices, such as creating a data route to a group of devices. Any devices added or removed to this group is automatically included in or removed from the data route.

Procedure

  1. In the IIoT Core Services UI, select the Device tab, then the Device Group tab.

  2. To add a new group, click the Add Device Group button.

  3. On the Add Device Group page:

    1. In the Name field, specify a group name.

    2. (Optional) In the Description field, consider describing the purpose of the group.

  4. (Optional) To add devices to the group, select one or more devices.

    To search for devices that you want to add, use the filter.

  5. Click Add to create the device group.

Results

The device group is created and displayed in the Device Groups list.

Edit a device group

You can add devices to or remove devices from an existing device group in the IIoT Core Services UI.

  1. In the IIoT Core Services UI, select the Device tab, then the Device Group tab.

  2. To edit a device group, select Edit from the Actions menu for the device group.

    Alternatively, select a device group name and then click the Edit button.

  3. On the Edit Device Group page:

    • To add one or more devices to the group, select the check boxes for those devices, then select the Add button in the Available Devices section.

      To search for devices that you want to add, use the filter.

    • To remove one or more devices from the group, use the Remove button in the Current Devices section.

  4. (Optional) Make any other changes to the group information.

  5. Click Save to update the device group properties.

Delete a device group
When you delete a device group, all device group routes associated with that device group are also removed. However, devices and any software or configurations deployed to the group are not deleted.

Procedure

  1. In the IIoT Core Services UI, select the Device tab, then the Device Group tab.

  2. Select one or more device groups and then click the Delete button above the table.

    You can also delete individual device groups by selecting Delete from the Actions menu next to the device group description.

  3. In the Delete Confirmation window, click Delete to confirm or click Cancel to keep the device group.

Results

The selected device group(s) are deleted.
